🔥 Bump & Grind Newsletter #3

Hey everyone,

Thanks for subscribing to our weekly newsletter! We love seeing our community grow week after week.

🙏 The R&B world recently suffered some heartbreaking losses with the passing of Roberta Flack, Angie Stone, and Gwen McCrae. Their contributions to music are immeasurable, and their legacies will live on through the timeless songs they left us. Rest in peace.

❤️ As we honor these legends, we’re also reminded of why we celebrate R&B in the first place—to keep the music alive and bring people together.

🎟️ Next Bump & Grind R&B Night – Saturday, March 22!

🗓️ On This Day: March 5th, 2002

Brandy’s Full Moon was released on March 5, 2002. It was a pivotal album in her career, showcasing her vocal maturity. The album featured “What About Us?” and the title track “Full Moon,” both of which became major hits and a couple of our favourites.

🔥 R&B Hot Take For The Week

Is Neo-Soul the best sub-genre of R&B?

Here are a couple of points:

🎵 Artistry & Authenticity – Neo-soul thrives on live instrumentation, jazz-inspired melodies, and poetic lyricism. Artists like D’Angelo, Erykah Badu, and Jill Scott craft music with more depth and intention than mainstream R&B.

🎵 Timeless Appeal – Unlike some early 2000s R&B that feels dated, Neo-Soul ages gracefully. Albums like Brown Sugar, Baduizm, and Voodoo are still revered decades later.

🎵 Depth Over Trends – While R&B has evolved into a more trap-influenced sound, Neo-Soul has maintained its organic, soulful roots, making it a sanctuary for true music lovers.

Is this take wild, or are we off? Let us know!
